Obituary of Margaret D. Cosgrove
Margaret D. Cosgrove, 104, of Freehold passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Atrium Nursing Home in Matawan. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, and had lived in the Grymes Hill section of Staten Island, and The Villages and Crossroads, both in Freehold. In her younger years, Peggy worked as a comptometer operator at Brooklyn Savings Bank, and later as a line dance instructor. A parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine, Peggy was a former member of Sweet Adelines International a cappella harmony group of Brooklyn, NY and Liberty Oak Chorus in Freehold Township. She enjoyed country western music and taught water aerobics. Peggy taught line dancing at both the Freehold Township and Howell Senior Centers, as well as at The Villages. This miraculous woman drove until the age of 100 years old. Who goes horseback riding for the first time at 100? Who goes go cart riding? Who drinks Saki out of a squirt bottle from some strange Japanese man? We didn't exactly get her on a zip line as planned, but let's just say this is pretty incredible stuff to do for the first time at 100. She leaves behind wonderful memories for her family to think about in the days and years ahead.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, William Cosgrove in 1991; sister, Marion Reilly; son-in-law, John Larkin; and granddaughter, Marielle Larkin. She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Larkin of Long Branch, and Susan Cosgrove of Manalapan; grandchildren, Kimberly Charette and her husband, Thomas of Jackson, and Keith Sobocinski and his wife, Stephanie of Aberdeen; and three great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Ashlyn and Sean.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 for the procession to her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Entombment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold Englishtown Road, Freehold Township.
