Obituary of Renata Nigido
Renata Nigido, 84, of Marlboro, NJ, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carlo and Antonio; and her sisters, Angela and Fausta. Renata is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Salvatore Nigido of Marlboro. She is also survived by her two daughters and their families, Susan Mullin and her husband, Daniel of Skillman, and their children, David and Nina; and Anna Nigido and her husband, Albert Pappas of Marlboro, and his two daughters Kristen Pappas and Allison Schwartzbaum and her husband Joseph, and their daughters Elizabeth and Madelyn.
Renata was born in Rome, Italy in 1934 and baptized in the Basilica of St. Peter’s Cathedral. She met her husband in Rome while he and his mother were vacationing there after his college graduation. After a whirlwind romance, they married in Rome and Renata moved to the United States. They originally lived in Brooklyn, NY and in 1971 she and her family moved to Hazlet, NJ. In 1997, she and her husband moved to Marlboro, NJ.
Renata went back to school after her children were grown and graduated from the Stuart School of Business Administration in 1986. After graduation, Renata was employed by the Department of Agriculture for 15 years and retired in 2001. Renata was an avid reader; she loved history, geography and the arts.
Renata most enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. She was a wonderful cook and hosted large family gatherings at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and family birthdays. Renata also loved traveling and spending time at their Florida home in Juno Beach. Her family is especially proud of her hard work, the courage she showed in leaving her family in Italy and moving to the United States to start her own family, her determination to become an American citizen and learn English, and that she went back to school later in life and had a successful career. As the matriarch of her family, Renata will be missed beyond words.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, March 11, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, 10:00 AM at the Old St. Gabriel’s Church located at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum, 549 Newman Springs Road (Route 520), Marlboro, NJ. Entombment will follow in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum.
