Obituary of Philip Clark Mitterway Jr.
Philip C. Mitterway, Jr., 69, of Howell passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at home. He was born in Prince’s Bay, Staten Island and raised in Long Branch. After living in Alexandria, Louisiana for several years, Philip moved back to Long Branch and eventually settled in Howell in 2002. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. Along with his brother, Philip owned and operated Alexandria Cycle Supply in Louisiana prior to working as a mechanic at Barg’s Lawn & Garden Shop in Freehold. He loved being on the water and spending time on his boat, Play N’ Hooky. Philip enjoyed spending time at the beach in Long Branch and riding his motorcycle.
Philip is survived by his wife, Betty-Anne Mitterway of Howell; two children, Tricia Corabi and her husband, Peter of Wantagh, NY and Travis Mitterway and his wife, Kate of Belle Harbor, NY; stepchildren, Ward Beirne of Howell and Charlanna Beirne of Howell; five grandchildren, Justin, Olivia, Lauren, Katelyn, and Travis; siblings, Barbara Delpino and her husband, Aldo of Fairview, North Carolina and Douglas Mitterway and his partner, Helen of Pineville, Louisiana; nieces and nephews; canine companions, Sidney, Sammy, and Mimi; and special friend, Tommy Taylor and his partner, Tracey Gdanitz of Freehold.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Adelphia Cemetery, Howell.
