Condolences
My condolences to the entire family. I'm sorry I did not know Daniel, only his granddaughter Allison but, after reading about him, I think I know Daniel through Allison. Intelligence, integrity and a great capacity for compassion come through and I know these attributes to be true of Allison as well. His legacy will live on. Peace.
I have known and worked with Dan for 30+ years. He was a true gentleman and I am lucky to be able to call him a friend. He was a person that went out of his way to educate building code officials across the United States with first exposing many to the importance of adopting regional codes and subsequently the International Code Council Codes. He also spent decades promoting the adoption of uniform building codes with actively contacting any Town, City or State government that he and our good fiend John Ed Ryan could get into see. Dan is an unsung hero in making the built enviroment in the United States much safer than when he was first exposed to the haphazard building regulatory system in the United States that he saw when a young man. On top of public safety being paramount in his efforts for the adoption of unifom building codes, he saw the importance that uniformity plays in the manufacturing of building products and in the design of structures.
Semper Fidelis and Godspeed my friend!
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss of a wonderful person who I remember as an extremely talented professional engineer, mentor, and friend. I met Dan back in the early 1970s at the BOCA Hearings, and also at NFPA Committee Meetings. He was a true gentleman and scholar of the national codes and standards. In retirement he became a code consultant and we would met at the ICC Hearings. Along with John Ed Ryan (of blessed memory who was retired from NFoPA), we would reminisce about the previous decades of our work in the code arena. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow. My prayers are with your entire family. May Dan's memory be a blessing. May he rest in peace.
