Obituary of Ignatius Salerno
IGNATIUS JOSEPH SALERNO, 68, of FREEHOLD, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mr. Salerno was born in the Bronx, N.Y. and had lived in Mount Laurel before moving to Freehold 10 years ago. Joe was a charter member of the Jackson Elks Lodge 2744. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1672, Freehold. He was a senior technical researcher for General Foods, Cranbury for 25 years. He then worked at Campbell Soup Company for over 10 years, retiring in 1997.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles A. Salerno, in 2005. Surviving are his wife, Willie Anne Salerno of Freehold; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Donald West of Freehold, Constance and Dennis Fisher of Maple Shade, and Carrie and Walter Parlow of Sicklerville; six grandchildren, Joseph, Grace, Braelyn, Alexandra, Kirsten, and Nicholas;a sister-in-law, Arline Salerno of Canton, Ga.; his nieces and nephew, Kathi, Donna, Chuck, and Christine; and several grandnieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by his 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, McLean Street, Freehold. Entombment to follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's memory may be made in trust for his granddaughter, Alexandra Fisher Trust Fund, c/o Mrs. Anne Salerno.
