Obituary of Filippo Tuttobene
Filippo “Papa” Tuttobene, 89, of Freehold Township passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at home. He was born in Aidone, Italy and had worked as a longshoreman for the ILA in Brooklyn. Known by all as Papa, he had a heart of gold and could light up a room by making everybody smile and laugh. He loved the New York Mets, gardening, and going to the racetrack and Atlantic City. Papa was an amazing man and father who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Papa was predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, Angela Tuttobene; son-in-law, George F. Smith; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Tuttobene. He is survived by his daughter, Grace Marie Tuttobene Smith of Freehold Township; Joseph Tuttobene of Edison; grandchildren, Vincent Philip Smith of Los Angeles and Phillip Tuttobene of Edison; and several brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews in Italy.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 10:00 AM for the procession to his 11:15 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Entombment will follow in St. Gabriel’s Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum, Marlboro.
