Obituary of Nicholas J. Castella
Nicholas J. Castella, 90, of Freehold Township passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born and raised in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn and settled in the Silvermead community in Freehold Township in 1999. Nicholas worked as a pressman for the New York Post for over 30 years. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he also worked as a cook. Nicholas’ love for cooking continued after his service and he especially enjoyed making his shrimp scampi. He also enjoyed painting and music, and was a DJ at Silvermead.
Nicholas was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Castella in 2008. He is survived by his three children, Vita Castella of Freehold Township, John Castella and his wife, Rita of West Windsor, and Nicholas Castella of Freehold Township; and two grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, August 7, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM with his funeral service to follow. Interment will follow in Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.
