Obituary of Jose Benigno Martinez

Jose Benigno Martinez, 88, of Howell Township passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2019 at The Manor, Freehold. He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City in the 1950’s. Jose had lived in the Bronx before moving to Troy, New York in 1999. He recently move to New Jersey to be with his son. Jose was a jeweler for Alfred Jewelers in the Diamond District of New York City for over 40 years, retiring in 1997, and had a great eye for the craftsmanship of jewelry making. He had a true passion for Horse Racing but his love for his family outweighed everything.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Vicenta Martinez; three sisters; and three brothers. Jose is survived by his son, Jose B. Martinez, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of Howell; four grandchildren, Elisa Morales and her husband, Edwin II of Howell, Joel Andrade and his wife, Patricia of White Plains, Josue Martinez, and Jasmin Martinez, both of Howell; four great grandchildren, Edwin III, Evelise, and twins, Krista and Xavier; and one brother.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Funeral Home on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 10:30 AM for his 11:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale.
