Obituary of Edward W. Barnik
Edward W. Barnik, 98, of Glenolden, PA passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Leisure Park Senior Center in Lakewood, NJ. Edward was born in Farell, PA, but his family moved to Philadelphia when he was a young boy. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a Naval Aviator. The Navy was Edward’s passion. After 7 years of active service, he remained in the USNR for 20 years earning the rank of Lt. Commander. As a reservist, Edward earned a B.S. Degree from Drexel University while working at the General Electric Switchgear Plant in Philadelphia. He bought a home and was a lifelong resident of Glenolden PA. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Florence Barnik; their daughter, Sandra Benarick and her husband, Stanley of Freehold, NJ; and grandson, Stanley Benarick and his wife, Lauren of Rochester, NY.
A graveside service will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown 08562 on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
