Obituary of Evelyn Anne Messer
Evelyn A. Messer, 70, of Howell passed away on February 9 at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold following a brief illness. She was born in Carle Place, New York to John F. and Evelyn M. Losh. She was raised in Lake Arrowhead, Denville, NJ, and spent many years in the Boston area following college. She returned to NJ, residing in Denville, Succasunna and finally, Howell.
After attending Morris Knolls High School in Denville, Evelyn graduated from the Chandler School in Boston. She worked as a medical secretary in the Boston area, followed by a long career as an event planner at the Novartis Pharmaceutical Company in East Hanover, NJ. She retired to care for her now-deceased husband, William Messer.
Evelyn loved spending time with her family, playing games of every sort, especially “UNO” with her grandsons. She was an avid cheerleader for her grandsons, niece and nephews and attended many of their events and celebrations. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, going to the beach and traveling to warm places, especially Aruba. She will be greatly missed by her feline companions, Shane and Calvin.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, William Messer. She leaves behind to cherish her memory son Richard Chronister of Texas, sister Geraldine Losh of Howell, brother John E. Losh and wife Lisa of Newburyport, MA, and step-son William Messer and wife Ashleigh of Stafford, VA . She is also survived by niece Liza Lunique of Union, nephews Joe Donati of Wolcott, VT, Jake Zanger of Howell, Sam and Alex Losh of Newburyport, MA and grandsons Jackson and Liam Messer of Stafford, VA.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will take place at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Rt. 524) Freehold Township, NJ on Saturday, February 22, 2020 with Visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
