Obituary of Edwin T. Rogers
Edwin T. Rogers, 83, of Neptune City passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Neptune City. Edwin retired from the Borough of Neptune City Public Works where he worked as maintenance personnel. He was devoted to the fire company and truly enjoyed helping others. Edwin would do anything to assist the community. He could be found watching StarTrek and adding to his collection of coins and stamps. Edwin bravely served for his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1959 and the Coast Guard Reserve from 1959 to 1968. He was an avid member of the Neptune City Fire Department starting in 1962 and the NJ Fireman’s Exempt Association starting in 1969, active in both until present day. Edwin was a member of the Boy Scout of America Troop 72 in Neptune City from 1987 to 2008 and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was part of the Monmouth Council Boy Scouts of America Camp Masters from 1993 to 2008, and the Order of the Arrow Vigil Member. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, pop pop, and brother.
Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Hazelton Rogers; and sister, Lois Rogers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Gail Rogers of Neptune City; son, James Rogers and his wife, Elaine of Howell; grandson, Justin T. Rogers of Howell; brother, Howard Rogers of Palmetto, FL; brothers-in-law, Walter Gant and his wife, Lynn of Neptune and Roland Gant and his wife, Robin of Belmar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, 4201 NJ-33, Tinton Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Neptune City Fire Department, 56 Laurel Ave, Neptune City, 07753.
