Obituary of Roy Hyde

Roy Marston Hyde, 104, of Jackson passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Roy was born on May 21, 1908 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Iselin in the caring home of his Aunt Ella And Uncle Fred. While living in Newark, Roy worked as a Pipe Organ mechanic and technician for PSE &G. He studied at Rider College and NYU. Roy rose to the rank of Captain in the New Jersey National Guard. In 1948 he moved to Pt. Pleasant where he established Hyde Builders constructing over 145 homes. Roy served as President of Shore Builders Association. He was also a proud member of the Board of Directors of Ocean First Bank. He continued to serve the community on several boards which oversaw the development of Pt. Pleasant. In addition, he was a generous contributor to local charities. Roy always had a love of boating and travel, especially to Nantucket. He was politically influential and kept abreast of politics and financial issues even at the age of 104. Amazingly, he had met both Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Roy was predeceased by his second wife, Marion Hyde; two sons, Philip L. Hyde, Sr. and Thomas D. Hyde, a grandchild, a great grandchild, and a great great grandchild; and two sisters, Cecil Gannett and Beatrice Murcott. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Norma H. Hyde, a daughter, Brenda Noke and her husband, Donald of Satellite Beach, FL; a stepson, Charles Friedel and his wife, Linda of Bayville; a step-daughter, Barbara Phillips and her husband, Chuck of Freehold Township, two daughters-in-law, Joyce Hyde of Satellite Beach, FL. and Lynn Hyde of Pt. Pleasant. He was a proud grandpa of 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
