Obituary of Lois Hoie

Lois Hoie, 88, of Wall passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Care One at Wall. She was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx before her family moved to Maplewood where she graduated from Columbia High School. Lois had lived in Middletown and Lincroft before moving to Tryon, North Carolina with her second husband, Matt. She later returned to New Jersey in 2005 after the birth of her granddaughter, Grace, to be closer to her family.

Lois retired as an executive secretary having worked her way up from her first job as a switchboard operator, all while raising her three children alone. Her children describe her as a strong, loving and devoted mother.

In retirement, Lois found a love and talent for oil painting and was an active member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church in Tryon North Carolina.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mathias Clausen Hoie in 2018. Lois is survived by her two sons, John Rhamstine and his wife, Erin of Norfolk, VA, and Stephen Rhamstine and his wife, Liz of Middletown; a daughter, Joy Allison and her husband, Bob of Lake Como; three grandchildren, John-David Rhamstine, Callan Rhamstine, and Grace Allison; and her younger sister, Joyce Bronson.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private services were held for the immediate family. Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family and will take place at Tryon Presbyterian Church, 430 Harmon Field Road, Tryon, NC 28782. For those who desire, memorial contributions in Lois’ name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
