Obituary of Shirley Rose Joseph
Shirley Rose Joseph, 83, of New York passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Allaire Rehab and Nursing Home. She was born and raised in Harlem, New York and settled in Midtown Manhattan. Shirley worked as an Executive Secretary for Barclay’s Bank in New York before retiring in the early 2000’s and sat on the board at Bellevue Hospital. She was a devoted member of the Williams Institutional C.M.E. Church in Harlem for many years.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with friends and family, going to the movies, and taking trips to Atlantic City to try her luck at the slot machines. She also donated her time occasionally to serving food to the homeless at the local shelter. While living in the city, she would love to walk any and everywhere especially on her journey to her favorite stores or to a Bingo game at the community center.
Shirley was one of eight children born to Laura Skinner who predeceased her, Jean (deceased), Mercedes, Elaine (deceased), Ralph (deceased), Eleanor (deceased), Bernard, and Iona. She was married to Edward Joseph (deceased) and leaves behind, her daughter, Michelle Peart and granddaughter, Noelle Peart. Shirley was loved by many as she has twenty nieces and nephews, thirty-one grand nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and loving friends who will mourn her loss.
