Obituary of Augusta Louise Lewis
Augusta Louise Lewis, 90, of Farmingdale passed away on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Wedgwood Gardens, Freehold Township. Gussie was born in Neptune, raised in Howell and settled in Farmingdale in 1957 where she remained for the rest of her life. She worked as a teacher and teacher’s aide in the Farmingdale Public School until her retirement. Gussie was a member of the United Methodist Women, and the Farmingdale Methodist Church where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher. She was past president of the Farmingdale PTA and also served as the president of the Farmingdale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Gussie loved gardening, sewing and quilting and belonged to the Molly Pitcher Stitchers Quilt Guild.
Augusta was predeceased by her husband, Henry E. Lewis, Jr. in 1976. She is survived by four children, Carolyn Lewis, Barbara Crom and her husband, Leslie of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert Lewis and his wife, Karen of Farmingdale, and William Lewis of Farmingdale; five grandchildren, Gregory, Craig, Bryan, Justin and Johnathan; five great grandchildren; and three siblings, Helen Greaves, George Wait and Edward Wait.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Ardena Baptist Church Cemetery, 593 Adelphia Road, Freehold. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines.
