Obituary of Thomas A. Clayton

Thomas A. Clayton, 89, a lifelong resident of Farmingdale passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He served in the United States Navy as a sonar technician on navy blimps and finished his career as a logistic engineer.  A true family man, Thomas considered everyone he met his “family”. His home was always open to anyone to stop by and chat. He had a love for farming and his tractors were his pride and joy. Thomas was a devoted member of the National Grange and worshiped at West Farms United Methodist Church.   

Thomas is survived by his wife, Emily Jeanne Clayton of Farmingdale; children, Victoria J. Biddle and her husband, Frank of Adelphia, Walter K. Clayton and his wife, Linda of Howell, Cynthia L. Cornman and her husband, Paul of Freehold, Steven W. Clayton and his wife, Tracey of Howell; former daughter-in-law, Valerie Clayton of Farmingdale; grandchildren Craig, Weston, Catie, Wesley, Victoria, Thomas, MaryKate, Abigail, Cory, Danny, Christopher, Sarah, Rachel and Bryce; great grandchildren Kira, Benjamin and Kimberly. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Bruce Clayton. 

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM with a Military Honors Service at 4:00 PM. A Graveside Inurnment will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, Howell. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines.  Facemasks will be required.
