Obituary of Joseph P. Horvath
Joseph P. Horvath, Sr., 80, of Howell passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, moved to the Shark River Hills section of Neptune Township, and settled in Howell in 1981. Joe worked for the Philadelphia Electric Company for many years, but is most well-known for owning and operating Horvath Lobster, a commercial lobster business. As the years went on, his sons joined the business and they created Jersey Shore Lobster Brothers. Joe was a legend in the commercial fishing industry and known as the OG of the North Channel. He was a true outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting. Joe was a loving pop-pop who was passionate about spending quality time with his family and was very proud of the family he created.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Concetta Horvath; and a brother, Stephen Horvath. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Emelia Horvath of Howell; children, April Ismaeil and her husband, Nat of Howell, Joe Horvath, Jr. of Brick, Adam Horvath and his wife, Dana of Toms River, and Tara Davis and her husband, Edward of Howell; grandchildren, Jamie, Alaia, Julia, Gianna, Isabella, Kayla, and Adam Jr.; a very special niece, Melissa Wardle and her husband, David; two nephews, Stephen Horvath and his wife, Maria, and Joe Horvath and his wife, Linda; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Horvath of Bucks County, Pennsylvania; and many other loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Due to COVID-19, the family requests that in person services are private and under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Relatives and friends can participate via the Clayton & McGirr Live Webcast on Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM.
