Obituary of Richard E. Briggs

Richard E. Briggs, 82, of Howell Township passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at home.  Rich was born in Neptune and was raised in Monmouth County.  Along with his wife, Hannah, they bought their home in Howell in 1967 to begin their life together and start a family.  He worked for the Freehold Regional School District in the Grounds and Maintenance Department for over twenty-five years until his retirement in 2007.  Prior to working for the school district, Rich worked for Lily-Tulip, Holmdel as a forklift operator for twenty years.  With his wife, Rich enjoyed traveling by car throughout the east coast and the south.  He loved the races and could be found in the stands at Wall Stadium on any given Saturday night.  As devoted husband, loving father, and adoring Pop-Pop, family was everything to Rich. 

Rich was predeceased by his son, Richard E. Briggs, Jr. and three brothers, Harold Briggs, Jr., Kenneth Briggs, and Raymond Briggs.  His is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hannah Layton Briggs; three children Elizabeth “Betsy” Miller and her husband, Bill of Neptune, Wilbur Briggs of Howell, and Timothy Briggs  and his wife, Dr. Darelle Pfeiffer of Point Pleasant; three grandchildren, Kyle, Ambrose, and Morgan; a sister, Linda Mills of Florida; and his nieces and nephews.
