Obituary of Dr. Aurelio F. Salon, Jr.

Dr. Aurelio F. Salon, Jr., 81, of Lakewood passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at FountainView Care Center, Lakewood.  Dr. Salon was born and raised in Santa Barbara, Province Pangasinan, Philippines.  He immigrated to Montreal, Canada in the early 1970s, where he met his wife.  Along with his wife, Dr. Salon lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Georgetown, St. Vincent; Montreal, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario.  He came to the United States in 1991 settling in Freehold, NJ and in 2015 retired to LakewoodDr. Salon completed his undergraduate work and received his medical degree from Far Eastern University in the Philippines.  He conducted his internships at McGill University teaching hospitals: Montreal General Hospital, the Jewish General Hospital, Reddy Memorial Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal, Canada. He then successfully completed his residency in Ottawa General Hospital.  Once settling down in Freehold, he began his private practice in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York as a family physician later joining and then retiring from Industrial Medicine Associates in Manhattan, New York.  A parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and a member of Bukas Loob sa Diyos, Dr. Salon lived a life in the spirit.  He took his Hippocratic Oath to heart and took numerous medical mission trips to the Philippines.  Dr. Salon liked to bowl, enjoyed the game of chess, had a fondness for collecting movies, a passion for ballroom dancing, was a world traveler and loved telling jokes and keeping everyone laughing and smiling.   He was a devoted husband of 47 years, loving father, and adoring Papa.

 

Dr. Salon was predeceased by his siblings, Dr. Iligino Salon, Natalia Casunuran, Aurora Layon, Lilia del Campo, and Ernesto Salon.  Dr. Salon is survived by his wife, Violeta; children, Ian Michael Salon and his wife, Tracey of Howell and Deidre Reyes and her husband, Raymund of Howell; three grandchildren, Tristan and twins Jayson and Darien; two siblings, Perla Gantz of Montreal, Canada, Florian Salon of Las Vegas; adopted sister, Marivic Banta of the Philippines and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to participate via webcast through Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home’s website HERE.
