Obituary of Margaret Whiteside

Margaret “Peggy” Smith Whiteside, 78, of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

She was born and raised on Staten Island, moved to Freehold in 1987, and had lived in Neptune for 20 years before settling to Jackson.  Peggy’s calling in life was as a registered nurse, providing over 25 years of dedicated service as a school nurse for the Middletown Township Board of Education until her retirement in 2013. She was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart on Staten Island, St. Robert Bellarmine in Freehold and St. Anselm of Tinton Falls. Peggy was also active in her fellowship with the Friends of Bill W.  She enjoyed playing mahjong with her friends, but above all, she loved spending time with her family.

Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Marge Smith; brothers, Jimmy Smith, Billy Smith, Bobby Smith, Richie Smith, Eddie Smith; sisters-in-law, Connie Smith, Sandy Nelson; and Conrad Whiteside.

She is survived by her children, Alex Whiteside and his wife, Bobbi of Brick, Karen Fox and her husband, John, of Jackson, Julie Koslowski and her husband, Joe, of Jackson, and Peggy Joseph of South River; grandchildren, Alex Whiteside and his wife, Maria, Cody Whiteside, Nick Whiteside and his wife, Kyle, Erin Fox, Ian Fox, and Joseph Koslowski; great grandson, Jaxon; siblings, Tommy Smith and his wife, Carol of Florida, Raymond Smith of Florida, Jackie Smith and his wife, Susan of Staten Island, and Mary Smith of Hawaii; and also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Rt. 524), Freehold Township, 07728 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 22nd, 2021. Peggy’s Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell, NJ 07731 on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021 at 9:30 AM. Please meet at church. For those that cannot attend in person, the family invites you to participate via Webcast through the Funeral Home Website HERE. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Ave, Staten Island, NY 10309.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
