Obituary of Lidia Serge

Lidia Serge, 91, of Howell Township passed away on March 10, 2021 at home. She was born in Taganrog, Russia, and came to the United States in 1950 living in New York City shortly before settling to Howell in 1955. Lidia worked for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in Lakewood, Neptune, Howell, and South Belmar for over 40 years before her retirement in 1993. She was a devoted member of St. Alexander Nevsky Church and the Rodina Hall Russian Society. Lidia especilally enjoyed gardening and swimming in her pool.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vasily Serge; parents, Vasily and Maria Kurochkin; son and daughter-in-law, Peter Zakurdaew and Kathy; and brother-in-law, Herman Krueger. Lidia is survived by her son, Alexander Serge and his wife, Janice of Howell; a sister, Elena Krueger of Jackson; and five grandchildren, Christopher Serge and his fiance, Emily, Andrew Serge, Emily Serge, McKinley Zakurdaew, and Lida Zakurdaew.

Pannyhida will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 and Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 5:00 PM at St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 200 Alexander Ave, Howell. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Friday, March 12, 2021 at St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Howell. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery, 316 Cassville Road, Jackson Township. All arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
