Obituary of Sung Yong Byun

Sung Yong Byun, of Freehold, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 24, 2021.  He is survived by his wife, Hwi Ja Byun, four children, multiple grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Sung Yong and Hwi Ja married in 1960.

Sung Yong was born and raised in South Korea, settling in the United States with his wife and children in 1972.  Sung Yong and Hwi Ja owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store for many years and served the community in Jersey City where he and his family lived and thrived for many years.  Through hard work and dedication to family, Sung Yong and Hwi Ja have been able to realize the “American Dream” of owning property, providing the best education for their children, and living a life of integrity and quality.  During retirement, he and Hwi Ja enjoyed taking road trips together.  He also loved playing golf and painting; and was able to fix practically anything he touched.
