Obituary of Megan Alexa Schulman
Megan Alexa Schulman, 23, of Bloomfield, CT and formerly of Freehold, NJ passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Lenox Hill Hospital, NY. She was born in Summit, NJ, but was raised in Freehold Township. Megan was the salutatorian of the Freehold Township High School Class of 2016 where she was a member of the varsity soccer and basketball team. She later attended Washington University in St. Louis where she double majored in mathematics and statistics as well as finance and was a member of the Women’s Club Soccer team. During college, she belonged to the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority where she served as the Vice President of Administration and Philanthropy Chairman. In the latter role, she was responsible for organizing various philanthropy events raising money for the Arthritis Foundation. She was also the Student Finance Director at the Washington University Campus YMCA where she coached youth basketball and soccer. Megan was an Actuarial Senior Analyst with Cigna as part of the company’s highly selective Actuarial Executive Development Program. She worked tirelessly as a volunteer and was remarkably giving with her time. Megan loved helping people and had an extremely positive outlook on life. She was fiercely loved and will be remembered forever.
Megan was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Paul and Myrna Schulman; and her maternal grandmother, MaryAnn Di Angelo. She is survived by her parents, Stuart and Michele Schulman of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Freehold Township; her sister, Jenna Schulman of West Hartford, CT; her brother Tyler Schulman of Tampa, FL; maternal grandfather, Joseph Di Angelo of Myrtle Beach, SC; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and friends too numerous to count.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:30 PM with her funeral service to follow. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required. To honor Megan’s philanthropic spirit, the family has requested, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Megan Schulman Memorial Endowment which plans to fulfill the philanthropic spirit of Megan through empowering organizations, students, and educators who carry out unwavering compassion for others, commitment to community involvement, and dedication to academic excellence. The family has started a GoFundMe page utilizing a fiscal sponsor (the Graeme Preston Foundation for Life) to allow for tax-deductible donations while they await confirmation of 501c3 status for the Megan Schulman Memorial Foundation.
