Judith Van Schoick

Obituary of Judith Ann Van Schoick

Judith Ann Packwood Van Schoick, 79, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 14, 2021, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia, after a brief illness.

Born in Neptune, New Jersey, Judith was raised in Farmingdale, Marlboro, and Belmar. She enjoyed school and excelled in her studies, graduating from Manasquan High School in 1960; she also took courses at the Asbury Park Business College. She grew up playing the organ at the Old Brick Reformed Church in Marlboro, New Jersey, played the piano for school functions, and sang in the chorus and glee club throughout her school years. A natural beauty, Judith was a runway model through Barbizon in New York City in her early twenties, later moving on to work for Allstate Insurance as an adjuster and for the Department of the Army as a secretary.

Judith’s greatest joy came later in life, as she fully embraced the roles of wife, mother, and homemaker. She was handy and independent, knew a lot about home building, repair and gardening, and took great pride in maintaining beautiful homes and gardens along with her husband over the years. Gifted in ceramics and floral arranging, Judith enjoyed crafts and also liked exploring genealogy with her daughter. She was an active parent at the Ranney School in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, where she supported class and National Honor Society projects and attended choral performances and most games, both home and away, for the girls’ tennis and softball teams. Judith was an enormously kind and compassionate person, always working hard to make sure others felt comfortable and appreciated. She also had a deep love for animals and helped rescue over 60 dogs and cats from various locations in central New Jersey. Judith had a wonderful sense of humor, which she maintained even with the nurses who cared for her in her final days. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Spring Lake Chapter. Judith lived in New Jersey until 2012, when she and her husband relocated to Romney, West Virginia, to be closer to their daughter.

Judith is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Forman Hunt Van Schoick, of Romney, West Virginia, and their daughter, Dr. A’ndrea Laurynn Van Schoick, of Virginia. She also leaves a sister, Karen Packwood Gaffey (Thomas), three nieces, two nephews, and several cousins.

Arrangements were private under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. Interment was private at Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in Judith’s memory to honor her love of animals, to the Humane Society of Warren County (https://humanesocietywarrencounty.com/donate/).
