Obituary of Catherine DiMattei

Catherine DiMattei, 95, of Freehold passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Pine Brook Care Center. She was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved to New Jersey over 30 years ago. Catherine was the head cook at St. Agnes rectory in Brooklyn for over 10 years, Cooking was a true hobby of hers and she could always be found in the kitchen whether at work or at home.  The youngest of 12 siblings, Catherine loved being a part of a big family and enjoyed every single tradition that was created and every milestone that was met.

She is predeceased by her husband, Antonino “Nino” DiMattei; and son, Anthony DiMattei. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Maria Morrissey and her husband, Charles of Croton on the Hudson; son, Ottavio DiMattei and his wife, Rosemary of Freehold Township; daughter-in-law, Susan DiMattei of Brooklyn; and grandchildren, Joanna Morrissey, Brian Morrissey and Constance DiMattei.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM Funeral Mass on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at St Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 433 Sackett Street, Brooklyn, New York 11231. Interment will follow in The Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th St, Brooklyn, New York 11232.
