Obituary of Joseph F. Mastriana

Joseph F. Mastriana, 94, of Freehold passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Wedgwood Gardens, Freehold Township.  He was born, raised, and had lived in Plainfield prior to living in Berkeley Heights for 48 years. Joe and his wife, Virginia, settled in Freehold in 2013.  Before retiring in 1989, he owned and operated JoMast Realty in Berkeley Heights for 25 years.  Joe proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, prior to that he served in the Merchant Marines joining at the age of 16.  He was a member of the William L. Mercier Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5446 and was a true jack of all trades. In his spare time, he enjoyed puzzles, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, and entertaining at home. Joe loved spending time floating in the ocean and taking trips with his family, especially to Seaside Heights and Atlantic City. His family was his biggest passion, and he will be deeply missed.

Joe was predeceased by his son, Joey; brother, Peter Mastriana; and sisters, Nancy Pelle and Mary Lauro.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Mastriana of Freehold; children, Donna Caprio and her husband, Chris of Boynton Beach, Florida and Bruce Mastriana and his wife, Shelly of Freehold; grandchildren, Joseph Mastriana and his wife, Josephine, Nicholas Mastriana and his wife, Caitlin, Michele Hagan and her wife, Amber, Dana Caprio, Lisa Caprio and her fiancé, Mariano De Luca, and Angela Valeski and her wife, Megan; great grandchildren, Thomas, Charlotte, Zachary, Gia, Mackenzie, and Brenden; brother, John Mastriana and his wife, Jenny of Delaware; sister-in-law, Louise Gannacci of Toms River; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM.
