Obituary of Jessie M. Haskins
Jessie Mae Haskins, 91, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021. She was born October 31, 1930 in Kiptopeke, Virginia to loving parents Gracie Marget Williams and Jesse Thomas Mason. Jessie moved to NYC as a teenager and lived in Manhattan, NY with her mother before relocating to Brooklyn, NY in the 1950’s. She raised her 11 children in Farragut Houses, in downtown Brooklyn and later moved to Howell, NJ, where she called home for 23yrs.
Jessie loved to cook and entertain at her home. She loved to play card games like spades (that she taught all her girls to play) and bid whist. Jessie enjoyed many pastime activities which included watching her early morning game shows and soap opera dramas which she called “her stories”. Additionally, she enjoyed watching numerous Western movies and rooting for her favorite New York sports teams.
Jessie loved having her family around her. It made her especially joyful and delighted to see everyone. She anticipated the holidays knowing that she would get to spend time with loved ones. Jessie was greatly loved and respected by her family and friends. She showed her love by welcoming everyone. Her soft spoken and pleasant demeanor made all feel comfortable in her presence. All of the neighbors and her children’s friends called her “Mommy”, as she is affectionately known to this day.
To continue with Jessie’s memory and cherish her life legacy are her sister, Audrey and her husband, Thomas; brother, William; children, Murdock III, Patricia, Clinton, April and her husband, Billy, and Gracelyn; thirty-three grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; and a host of extended family, close relatives, and friends.
Welcoming her home with the Lord, are her sister Mattie; her children, Cynthia, Andrena, Duane, Barbara, Ronnie, and Shirley; her grandson, Raymond; and two great grandsons, Tyheim and Dakari.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at First Assembly of God, 272 Jackson Mills Road, Freehold. Interment will follow in Marlboro Memorial Cemetery & Mausoleum, 61 Highway 79, Morganville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
