Obituary of Maryann Carney
Maryann Carney, 80, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2022 at Wedgwood Gardens, Freehold. Maryann was born, raised, and lived her whole life in Elizabeth. Just last spring, she moved to Freehold Township to live with her son & daughter-in-law.
Maryann was employed by Schering-Plough for over 25 years, ultimately rising to a Senior Administrative Assistant role before her retirement. Maryann had a passion for maintaining her garden, especially tending to her rose bushes. A lover of animals, Maryann adopted several neighborhood cats and regularly fed the local birds. She enjoyed her retail therapy, watching QVC and the Home Shopping Network. A fan of music, Maryann adored Elvis and Barbara Streisand. She liked keeping fit and exercising. Yet none of these interests could compare to the joy she felt from being “Nana” to her grandson Tyler.
Maryann was preceded by her brother, John F. Skodi and her former husband, Jack Carney. She is survived by her son, John Carney and his wife, Cathy of Freehold Township; her grandson, Tyler John Carney and his canine companion, Jasper; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Acanfora of Bayonne.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Funeral Service at the funeral home on Monday, January 31, 2022. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
