Dan Popescu

Obituary of Dan Popescu

Dan Popescu, 92, of Marlboro passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022.  He was born in Romania in 1930, where he served as an officer in the armed forces, earned his law degree, worked as a prosecutor, and later became legal counsel to a large entertainment company.  In Romania, he also met his loving wife of 42 years and became the proud parent of their son, Robert.

To escape communism, he immigrated to the United States in 1982, where he continued to be the principal pillar of support for his family.  Dan was fluent in Romanian and French, and had a passion and true gift for writing. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren, spectate their soccer games, and share with them many stories of his youth, world history, and Romanian traditions. He was always ready to offer pearls of wisdom and guidance.

Always kind, warm, humble, well-disposed, and extremely family oriented, Dan has been an enduring source of knowledge, strength, and support for all who were fortunate enough to know him.  He beamed with joy and pride for his three loving grandchildren who will always refer to their beloved grandfather as their “Bu”.  He will be sorely missed by many.

Dan was predeceased by his loving wife, Haia “Sylvia” Popescu, who passed away in 2009, and his sister, Octavia “Doina” Dogaru.  He is survived by his son, Robert Popescu, Robert’s wife and Dan’s beloved daughter-in-law, Chantal, and his grandchildren, Siena, Brandon and Michael Popescu; as well as his niece, Roxanna and her husband, Vasile Gosman of Canada, great niece, Caroline Moulin of France and her husband, Bertrand, great nephew, Matei Gosman of Canada and a great-great niece and nephew.

All arrangements were private and under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.  To leave condolence messages or share a memory with the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
