Obituary of Maria Ann Mihok

Maria Ann (Frezza) Mihok passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 5, 2022.  She was born in Hoboken and her family moved to Union City where she lived until her marriage to her beloved husband and soulmate, Ed. They were married on May 23, 1954, at St. Anthony’s Roman Church in Union City, NJ.

Maria loved entertaining, cooking, reading, nature, and Yankee baseball. She was a member of her bridge club for over 40 years. Everyone was loved and welcome to her house.  She made every holiday memorable and special.

She was the first in her family to graduate college attending Pace University in New York City and graduating on June 22, 1951, with a business degree, and was one of just several women to graduate the program with over fifty men.  She was also one of the few women in her family to drive a car which was something she insisted on.

Maria spent several years working for an accounting firm in New York City then started her own accounting business where she worked until her mid-70s.  She tirelessly and lovingly balanced raising her children, operating her business and entertaining.  Her love of her family was loyal and unconditional. Maria then cared for her son Andrew at home after he was in a car accident in 1978.  Maria continued to include and balance his care with all the other things she did, and with the same love and patience.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward John Mihok, Sr. who passed away on June 30, 2015.  Maria leaves behind five children, Edward Mihok and his wife, Denise of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, Robert Mihok and his wife, Susan of Jefferson, Andrew Mihok of Manchester and Paula Fourniadis and her husband, Robert of Howell and Steven Mihok and his wife Kirsten of Spring Hill, Florida; Fourteen Grandchildren and Five Great Grand Children; Sister, Carol Scancalepore and her husband, Vincent of Midland Park; Longtime friends, Jenny Marchese and her husband, Vinny of Nutley and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
