Obituary of Irwin Goldberg
Irwin Goldberg, 92, of Freehold Township passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, July 10, 2022. Irwin was born and raised in Brooklyn. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Irwin received his Bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York, his Master’s degrees from the University of Michigan, and his Doctoral degrees from University of Wisconsin. He taught sociology throughout his career and was previously a Department Chair at Towson University; he retired from the university in 1998. At Towson, Irwin created the Irwin Goldberg Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sociological Research. The Goldberg Award is given annually to the student who submits the paper best reflecting sociological research techniques. Throughout his life, he was a voracious reader and in retirement was a top reviewer of books on Amazon. The arts spoke to Irwin, which led to his passion as a collector and connoisseur of fine art.
Irwin is survived by his sister, Ellen Leiman of Jacksonville, FL; his nephew, David Leiman and his wife, Gale of Lincroft, NJ; his niece, Sally Pari and her husband, Tom of Jacksonville, FL; his three grand nephews, Zachary Leiman, Hunter Karass and his wife, Alyssa, and Matthew Pari; two great nieces, Karly Leiman and Rachel Leili and her husband, Eric; and two great-great nephews, Mason Karass and Lincoln Leili.
