Condolences
Oh I’m so sad to hear this news! My deep and sincere condolences to Ann, Rick and Mary Beth, Karen and Kenny, Lisa and David and all the Crawford family.
Mr. Crawford was most definitely an impactful Glen Park grown-up during my childhood. I can still hear his voice and, in my mind’s eye, see that burgundy conversion van driving slowly around the corner and up the hill on home-game Sundays – bugle blaring. Well, maybe not blaring as that bugle was not the most functional or in tune …. The van would stop and pick up the Cowatches across the street for the trip to beloved RFK. We would send them off with shouts of Go Skins! Hail to the Redskins! and Mr. Crawford would respond with a hearty attempted blast of Charge!
I also can clearly remember descending the steps to the basement in the Crawford’s home on Ambleside. Before one entered the shrine of passionately collected Redskins memorabilia, one first was required to wipe one’s feet (thoroughly) on the Dallas Cowboy pennant permanently glued onto the basement floor. I just loved that!
Rest in peace Mr. Crawford, and may perpetual light shine upon you. Maybe, while you are enjoying heaven, you can connect with Nick and Mark, Frank and Lynda, Mr. Davis, Mr. Dismukes and the rest of the Glen Park crew up there with you plus Joe Cagg. Maybe together you can get the cheering section ready for the rest of us forever fans who hope to be joining you all sooner or later. We will know how to find you – we will just listen for the sounds of that off-pitch bugle cajoling and encouraging the heavenly host and those below to get a Charge on!
I can still see the Redskins flag flying from the corner house on Ambleside Drive! Dick's spirit and love of the Redskins was contagious. Deep condolences to Ann, Rick, Karen and Lisa and his many grandchildren. Pat Cornish
Dick was a big part of our family since 1972 when we all moved to Ambleside. Great memories of all our Christmas Eves together. Derby Day parties, Redskins games and parties, and a party for every occasion. We were truly blessed to have the Crawfords in our lives. Those were the good old days we all miss, but memories are forever. Deepest sympathy and condolences to Rick, Karen, Lisa, and families. Dick always brought us fun and laughter. He will be missed. Rest In Peace, Dicko. You were more than special. Say Hi to Nick and Mark, and all the rest who have left us behind and will be there to greet you. BFF Del Nylec
