Obituary of William G. Weissman, II
William G. Weissman, II, 68, of Freehold passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Bayonne and raised in South Amboy before moving to Freehold Township in 1990. Bill was a devout Roman Catholic, Eucharistic Minister, and usher at St. Rose of Lima in Freehold, and a member of the Knights of Columbus #1672. A professional civil engineer by trade and graduate of NJIT (NCE), Bill worked 45 years in heavy highway construction and semi-retired from D’Annunzio & Sons, Inc. in 2020. He opened his own consulting business upon retirement and spent his time at his home in Bolton Landing on Lake George, NY.
He was predeceased by his parents, William and Isabelle Weissman; nephew and Godson, Robbie Jr.; niece, Anne Wilson; and his best friend, Danny Jeleniewski. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Michele of Freehold; three sons and their spouses: Will (Samantha) of Freehold, Dan (Melissa) of Hamilton, and Greg of Belmar; a loving and playful Pop Pop to his four grandchildren: Alexandra, Jake, Emily Ann, and Theo; sister and her husband, Kathleen Wilson (Earl); twin brother and partner in crime, Robert Weissman Sr.; nieces, Jodie, Jill, Kelly, Katie, Amy, and Godchild Caitlin; and countless nieces and nephews of friends and extended family.
Bill loved slalom and barefoot water skiing, snow skiing, playing piano, telling “true stories”, boating, sharing his lake home, and, most of all, laughing with his family, cousins, and friends, including his TKE brothers, Save the Boys, and the Freehold Martini Club. He loved his work and always managed to put his family and God first and enjoyed family vacations. Bill twice triumphed over cancer and was forever beholding to Dr. Mark Urken, Mt. Sinai, who he considered not only an amazing physician but also a friend. Bill credited Dr. Urken for giving him an extra 22 years of a healthy life, a single day of which he never took for granted.
In his final act of kindness, Bill gave the gift of sight to two individuals.
A visitation will take place at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Funeral Home on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 9:00 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold, which will be celebrated by his high school friend, Father John Alvarado. Interment will be private. For those who desire, memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be made to Cancer Hope Network, 2 North Road STE A, Chester, NJ 07930 or THANC Foundation, Post Office Box 1021, New York, NY 10276.
