Obituary of Barbara L. Reed

Barbara L. Reed, 80, of Howell passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Ocean Medical Center, Neptune.  A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, she was born in Neptune, raised in Farmingdale on her family’s potato farm.  Barbara was a graduate of Glassboro State College and continued her education at Trenton State College where she earned her Master’s degree.  She then taught 2nd grade in the Howell Township school system for 33 years at Ardena Elementary School and later became a member of RATS – the Retired Ardena Teachers Society.  Barbara was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, the Molly Pitcher Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Adelphia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.  Among her many hobbies, she loved to cross-stitch, visit the Spring Lake beach and gardening.  She also enjoyed  traveling, specifically road trips with her husband and vacationing in Naples, FL.        

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, James S. Reed in 2012; and stepson, Gary Reed in 2018.  She is survived by her sister, Beverly Emonds of Naples, FL; nieces, Laura Campbell and her husband, Mike and their children, Kayla and Bryce of Mount Royale, NJ, and Lynne Emonds and her partner, Rob Ristow of Allentown, NJ; stepson, Glen Reed of Toms River; step daughter-in-law, Sue Reed; step grandchildren, Christopher Reed of Allentown, PA and Kelly Soltysik and her husband, John of Howell; and two step great grandchildren, J.J. and Abigail. 

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Adelphia Cemetery, Wyckoff Mills Road, Howell.  For those who desire, memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or Bethesda United Methodist Church, 928 Adelphia Road, Post Office Box 245, Adelphia, NJ 07710.
