Obituary of Joao Antonio Nascimento

Joao Antonio Nascimento, 71, of Freehold passed away at CentraState Medical Center on December 5, 2022. He was born and raised in Castelejo, Portugal and had lived in Newark and Kearny before settling here in 1991. Joao served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He owned Jimmy B’s video store in Garwood, and later in life worked as a driver for Shore Point Distributing. A hippie at heart, Joao loved nature and taking care of our earth. He had a big heart and was extremely generous to others. Joao’s greatest passion in life was capturing memories of his family. His last name was Nascimento meaning birth and he gave life to everything he touched from plants to the people that he met. In his honor, the family requests that you plant a tree and as it grows you always think of Joao.

Joao is predeceased by his parents, Joaquim and Lucrecia; sister, Anna maria; and brother-in-law, Joe. He is survived by his wife, Maria F. Nascimento of Freehold; two daughters, Maria Nascimento Goncalves and her husband, Licinio of Elizabeth and Deanna Nunes and her husband, Paulo of Elizabeth; two grandchildren, Lucas and Marcus; sister, Maria Nogueira; brother, Jose Nascimento and his wife, Manuela; brothers-in-law, Tony Calcao and his wife, Gloria and John Calcao and his wife, Cathy; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Friday, December 9, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 16 Mc Lean Street, Freehold. Interment to follow at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, 361 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ 0775. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joao’s name  may be made to Epilespsy Foundation , 3540 Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20716.
