Obituary of Karen Lynn Umstead

Karen Lynn Umstead, 73, of Freehold Township passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge.  She was born in Teaneck, raised in Ridgefield and lived in Township of Washington before settling here in 2016.  Before retiring in 2015, Karen worked for Westwood Dermatology for twenty-two years.  Her lifelong passion was to care for her two sons.  She loved dining out with both family and friends.  She and her husband were diehard Boston Red Sox fans.  In her retirement, she enjoyed going to the movies with her son, Michael. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Louise Burke.  Karen is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, John Umstead; son, Frank Alessio of Astoria, Queens and Michael Alessio of Freehold Township; her brother, Ken Burke of North Carolina; a nephew, Jonathan Burke and his wife, Nichole of Virginia; and a grand-nephew, Declan.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM Graveside Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 11, 2022 at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum, 361 Route 79, Morganville, NJ 07751.  For those who desire, memorial contributions in Karen’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
