Obituary of Violeta C. Salon

Violeta C. Salon, 79, of Lakewood passed away at home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.  She was born and raised in Midsayap, province Cotabato, Philippines. Violeta immigrated to Canada in 1968 and through her roommates, met her beloved husband in Montreal. She travelled and lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Georgetown St. Vincent; Montreal, Quebec, and Ottawa, Ontario before coming to the United States in 1991, first settling in Freehold, NJ and later to Lakewood, NJ. She graduated from the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) with dual degree obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and a Bachelor of Arts in 1964. She worked for the Canadian Government until immigrating to the United States. Violeta was a world traveler having visited five continents, loved listening to classical music, showing off her ballroom dancing skills, and was an avid gardener.  She enjoyed cooking and baking, and was known for her pineapple cake, leche flan, and munggo, a traditional Filipino dish.  Violeta was a selfless and generous woman, donating to countless charities, and always supportive of her family.  A woman of faith, Violeta was a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima where she served as a lector and a Shepherd for Bukas Loob sa Diyos where she ministered to solo parents.  She was a devoted wife of 48 years, loving mother, and adored Mama.      

Violeta was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Aurelio F. Salon, Jr. in 2021; and her parents, Pedro and Rosalia Cruz.  She is survived by her son, Ian Michael Salon and his wife, Tracey of Howell; daughter, Deidre Reyes and her husband, Raymund of Howell; grandchildren, Tristan, and twins, Jayson and Darien; siblings, Peter Cruz, Virginia Paraiso, Ruben Cruz, William Cruz and Renato Cruz; and many loving nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A small service and eulogy ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold on Saturday, January 21, 2023. For those that cannot attend in person, the family invites you to participate via Webcast, HERE.  Inurnment will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold.
