Obituary of Santiago D. DeChavez Jr.

Santiago D. "Dayo" DeChavez, Jr., 70, of Freehold Township passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, Dayo was born in Batangas, Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1978. He lived in Jersey City and Clifton before settling here in 1992. He worked as a chemical engineer for Van Dyke Cosmetics in Belleville prior to his retirement. He was a sports fanatic and loved watching football, basketball and baseball. Dayo enjoyed bowling and deep-sea fishing.

Dayo is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rowena; daughter, Karen DeChavez and her husband, Ryan Black of Lawrenceville; granddaughter, Kiera Black; siblings, Arsenia, Arceli, Leody, Teresita, Nora, Lolita and Nestor; numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with his funeral service to follow immediately after.
