Obituary of Donald Trainor
Donald Trainor, 85, of Freehold passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Don proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1954 to 1958 as Petty Officer Third Class on the USS Randolph (CV-15) in the Mediterranean Sea for four tours. During that time, on May 4, 1957, he married his wife, Anne, whom he had known since her family moved into the same two-family home when she was 12. Upon his discharge, Don began working for Western Union in New York City. In 1964, they moved to Jackson to raise their family. Don then began his carrier with the U.S.P.S as a Letter Carrier in Jackson and retired in 1996 after 20 years of dedicated service. In retirement, he worked at the Great Adventure in the Safari. A man of faith, Don was a former parishioner of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and an altar server for funerals. He was also a life-member of the Knights of Columbus, #6201, Jackson. In 2008, they moved to the Surrey Downs Community and became a parishioner of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Don found joy in relaxing on the couch watching TV. He enjoyed Disney and traveling, especially on cruises. Don was proud of his Irish heritage but was prouder of being known as "Grandpa" aka "Grumpy".
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Anne Trainor; children, Lori Trainor of Gouldsboro, PA, Suzanne West and her husband, Stephen of Farmingdale, Rev. Fr. Michael S.P. Trainor of Hackensack; grandchildren, Christina, Connor, Carly, Candace, Ashley, Angela, and Samantha; 6 great grandchildren; and a son, James Trainor of Florida.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 9:30 AM for the procession to his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, One Honey Locust Drive, Lakewood.
