Obituary of John A O'Neill

John A. O’Neill, 90, of Freehold Township, NJ passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023. He died peacefully at home.

John was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ. He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep HS in 1950. John then went to Fordham University where he earned a BA in accounting and graduated in 1955. He also served in the military for two years after graduation.

John married his love, Ruth Greenly, on May 9, 1964. They moved to Manalapan, NJ to begin a family and joined St. Thomas More parish. In 1995 they moved to Bridgewater, NJ. In 2003 they retired and moved to Freehold, NJ where they joined St. Robert Bellarmine parish where dad was actively involved.

John is survived by his son James of Freehold, NJ; his son William and his wife Jan of Studio City, CA; daughter, Kathleen Seaman and her husband John, their children, John and Ruth’s grandchildren, Olivia and Thomas of Spring, TX. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard O’Neill and wife Ann of Lavallette, NJ, and Brian O’Neill and wife Kim of Venice, FL.

John enjoyed traveling with Ruth. He enjoyed golf and they both loved sports. They shared a heathy competition over crossword puzzles and enjoyed time with family, especially their grandchildren. John was content just being with her. Ruth developed Alzheimer’s and dad’s devotion never wavered. He would visit her every day. Ruth died from covid-19 on April 23, 2020. We never had the chance to say goodbye…

The service will be at St. Robert Bellarmine on May 9, 2023 at 10:30AM. Located at 61 Georgia Rd. Freehold, NJ 07728.

It would’ve been their 59th wedding anniversary. We will also honor his wife, Ruth O’Neill, who never had a proper memorial due to Covid restrictions at the time of her passing. He will be interred with Ruth at St. Gabriel’s Chapel & Mausoleum on May 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Located at 549 County Road 520, Marlboro, NJ 07746
