Obituary of Thomas D. Nolte
Thomas D. Nolte, 91, of Freehold Township passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at home. Tom was born and raised in Wheeling, West Virginia and lived there until settling in Freehold Township in 1974. He was a loving husband of 68 years to Louise A. Nolte, formerly of Somerville, Massachusetts, with whom he raised four children in Wheeling and Freehold. Tom was an adoring father, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Tom retired from sales and management positions at Dana Transport in Freehold. Prior to that, he was a general manager of the chemical division for Peerless Transport Corporation and was co-owner of Avenel Transport. Tom had a passion for the game of golf, which led him to return to the workforce post-retirement as a course ranger for the Monmouth County Park System at Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone Township.
Tom was predeceased by his daughter, Luanne Nolte Champ. He is survived by his wife, Louise (nee Archer); their children: Suzanne Johnson and her husband, Jeffrey of Cream Ridge; Thomas E. Nolte and his wife, Jennifer of Lawrenceville; and Dina Freibott and her husband, James, Jr. of Fleetwood, PA; son-in-law, Dennis Champ of Toms River; grandchildren: Jason Batistoni and his husband, Michael; Lynn Batistoni and her husband, Christopher; Jeffrey B. Johnson and his wife, Teresa; Erik Nolte, Luke Nolte, and Julia Nolte; and a great-grandson, Thomas Vicino.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd, Arneytown, NJ 08562.
