Obituary of Charles E. Brown

Charles E. Brown, 77, of Howell passed away at home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.  He was born in Avenel, raised in Metuchen and lived in Colonia before settling here in 1987.  Charles graduated from Upsala College and went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.  He worked in the Macy’s warehouse, and later as a technician for both IBM and Xerox.  Charles was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Metuchen and the Moose Club in Jackson, NJ as well as Williamsburg, VA where he owned a condominium. Charles’ hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading, and going to concerts.  A music lover whose favorite band was The Eagles, Charles had been to the Woodstock festival.  In recent years he enjoyed spending time with his friends at Applebees.    

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marian Brown.  Charles is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Judith Brown; brother, Harold Brown and his wife, Marie of Edison; sister, Janice Gedrich of Whitehouse Station; sister-in-law, Corinne DePaola of Bethel, CT; five nephews, Timothy Brown, Paul Brown, Patrick Brown, Peter Brown and Andrew Gedrich; two nieces, Michelle Catalani and Laura Rapp; and many dear friends.  

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday, May 20, 2023.    Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, 1823 Amwell Road, Franklin Township, NJ 08873.  For those who desire, contributions in memory of Charles may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
