Obituary of Shirley Layton

Shirley A. Layton, 73, of Lakewood passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Shirley was born in Toledo, Ohio and had lived in Jackson before moving to Lakewood 26 years ago. She was a Dental Assistant at Monmouth Medical Center, prior to that she was at Kimball Medical Center retiring in 1998. Shirley was a member of the National Audubon Society and National Wildlife Foundation. She was predeceased by a son, Sean O'Neill in 2002. Shirley is survived by her husband, Elmer E. Layton, Jr.; two sons, Timothy O'Neill of Cherry Hill and Christopher O'Neill of Oregon, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia O'Neill of Toms River and Margaret O'Neill of Lakewood; two stepdaughters, Deborah Ann Derzinski of Medford, Sharon Thesing of Toms River; a stepson, Willard Layton of Toms River. Nine grandchildren; one sister, Regina Carey of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Ruth Ball of Sandusky, Ohio; and a best friend, Dorita D'Alto of Pooler, GA. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM with her funeral service at 4:45 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted by Elmer to maintain Shirley's Bird Sanctuary and Wildlife (her Pet Project).
