Obituary of Nicholas Jazgunowicz
Nicholas Jazgunowicz, fell asleep in the Lord June 30, 2023. Born in Belarus in 1935 to the late Anna and Konstantin. Husband to the late Katherine. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Jazgunovich and his wife, Victoria, his daughter, Tamara and his grandchildren, Lars and Kyra. He is uncle to Serge, Anya, Zina, and several great nieces and nephews.
After surviving the war in Europe, Nicholas moved to the United States in 1951 with his family and settled in Lakewood, New Jersey. He later moved to Los Angeles, California where he attended college, played competitive soccer and learned his lifelong love of fishing. He served in the US Army and was recognized for his chess mastery and invited to travel to Army bases to play in tournaments. He then moved back to the East Coast where he met and married his wife, Katherine, settling in her hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He became an engineer and worked on the Apollo Sky Lab and Space Shuttle programs.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church, 316 Cassville Road, Jackson, NJ 08527, on Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with his funeral service to follow. Interment will take place at St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Cemetery, 316 Cassville Road, Jackson. For those who desire, memorial contributions will be made to Saint Andrew’s Orthodox Church, 2028 East Lombard Street, Baltimore, MD 21231.
