Obituary of James Edward Roth
James Edward Roth, a distinguished entrepreneur and devoted family man, passed away at the age of 80 on July 10, 2023, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born and raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, James embarked on a journey of higher education at the University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Connecticut, graduating with a degree in Mathematics in 1966.
His professional path led him to Kingston, New York, where he played a significant role at IBM. Post his stint at IBM, James took his mathematical and technical expertise to Wall Street, where he worked for several prestigious banks. He emerged as a pioneer in the sector, programming some of the first trading systems that helped transform financial markets.
In 1970, he established his home in Freehold with his family. An important part of his life was also spent in Holmdel, New Jersey. There, he not only raised his family but also founded and operated his independent consulting firm, Systems Methodologies Inc., for more than two decades.
James had a fervor for travel and explored numerous parts of the world including Paris, Italy, Hawaii, Ireland, and Singapore. Among his many talents was writing, which he showcased in his book "Today's a Yellow Day". A man of quick wit, lively humor, and a penchant for spontaneity, James was much loved and admired by all. His title of 'friendliest person' from high school days remained with him all his life, as he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Dana Roth; brothers, Raymond Roth and Harry Roth; and parents, Robert and Veronica Roth; James is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Florence Roth; children, Dan Roth and his wife, Michelle of Howell, Andrew Roth of Singapore, and Jennifer Roth of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Brooke Roth, Michael Roth, Harrison Roth, and Veronica Roth; sister, Mary Roth; and a number of dear nieces and nephews.
The visitation is scheduled at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 2:30 to 6:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 6:00 PM. Inurnment will take place on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 2:30 PM at the Maplewood Cemetery, 169 West Main Street, Freehold Township.
