Obituary of John Prescott Shibles
John Prescott Shibles, 75, of Ocean Ridge, FL and Sea Girt, NJ passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in New Brunswick and moved to the Jersey Shore in the mid 70s and to Ocean Ridge, FL in 1999. A graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, he continued his education at Quincy University in Quincy, IL and later received his Master’s degree from Pace University, New York City. This past May John received an honorary Doctorate from Quincy University. John started his career as an accountant with Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick. In the late 70s he became a real estate broker at Sitar Realty in Iselin. In the early 80s he began his career as a real estate developer. John was involved in the site selection and development of numerous Home Depot sites throughout the State of New Jersey. During his illustrious career, John’s projects won numerous architectural and marketing accolades for his development projects which epitomized his attention to detail.
In later years John developed a passion for automobiles. In 2012 John’s hobby led to the opening of the Back Door Garage which was known for one of the finest collections of classic cars on a national level. He participated in many Concours d’Elegance throughout the country including Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, Hershey Region and Newport, RI. John enjoyed traveling and collecting wine and sharing it with family and friends. He was always willing to assist others through his advice, caring and support. He was a parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boynton Beach, FL and St. Catharine Catholic Church in Spring Lake.
John was predeceased by his first wife, Teresa Notarianni Shibles in 2013. He is survived by his loving wife, Jill Devlin Shibles; sons, Prescott Shibles and his wife, Naomi, along with his grandson, Rowan of Charlotte, NC and John C. Shibles and his wife, Elizabeth along with his grandchildren, Ryan, Colin, Brendan and Claire of Lincroft; his sister, Laura Jane Shibles of Ocean Ridge, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St. Catharine Catholic Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake. Interment will be private.
