Obituary of Herta Brasowski
Mrs. Herta Brasowski, lovingly known as "Oma" by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 27th, at the age of 94. Herta was born on July 22,1929 in Trautenau, within the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia. Herta, lost her father, Alois Kuhn at the age of 13, fled to Germany with her mother, Auguste Kuhn and lived in several work camps during World War II. After the war, she had the opportunity to complete secretarial school, subsequently meeting her husband, Igor Brasowski to marry him in 1951 and settled in Germany. Herta and her husband, Igor immigrated to the United States in 1954 and settled in the New York metropolitan area. Herta worked as a bilingual secretary all of her career, retiring from Mercedes Benz to live with her husband in Cape Coral Florida, and spending her last years in Georgia with her daughter.
Herta loved to play piano, sing and entertain friends and family. She was cheerful and thankful for all of her life's experiences and referred to herself as the 'bluebird of happiness'. She was a long standing and active member of the Orthodox Christian Church, always involved wherever she lived, from New York, New Jersey, Florida and most recently, Georgia.
Herta was preceded in death by her husband, Igor in 2005 and daughter, Veronica Genito in 2022.
She is survived by her son, Leon Brasowski (Anna); son-in-law, Anthony Genito; seven grandchildren, Stephen Brasowski (Beth), Nicholas Brasowski (Katherine), Alexander Brasowski (Brittani), Simeon Brasowski, Stephanie Genito, Gabrielle Genito, and Jacqueline Hornikel (Bjorn); and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Pannyhida will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 12:00 Noon followed by a viewing until 2:30 PM at St. Mary of Egypt Russian Orthodox Church, 1765 Woodstock Road in Roswell, Georgia.
A Pannyhida will be held at St. Alexander Nevsky R.O. Cathedral, 200 Alexander Avenue, Howell, NJ on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 6:00 PM. Relatives and friend are invited to attend her 10:00 Funeral Liturgy at the Cathedral on Thursday, August 3, 2023. Interment will follow in St. Vladimir R.O.
