Obituary of Anthony Gennaro

Anthony Gennaro, 68, of Manalapan passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center. Anthony was born and raised in Brooklyn.  He was a graduate of New Utrectht High School and a member of their Football Alumni Association and inducted into their Hall of Fame.  Anthony graduated from the University of Maine and returned home to work in New York City.  On December 12, 1979, he met his wife on the subway below the World Trade Center where their life together began. They moved to Manalapan in 1987.  He was a self-employed Professional Structural Engineer who helped shape New York City. Working on everything from subways, skyscrapers and escalators suspended over water, no friend or family member would even think of buying a home without his stamp of approval. Anthony’s favorite time was sitting around the dinner table with his wife and daughters talking about their days. He enjoyed coaching football and was constantly working on his golf game. He found peace by the water, and cherished his time on the boat with his dad. Anthony took great pleasure in traveling, especially his trip with his family to South Africa and annual trips to Long Boat Key. He loved his family, his friends and his pets dearly, making sure everyone knew how important they were to him and that he was always was rooting for them.  

Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Rose Gennaro.  He is survived by his wife of 41, years, Emy; two daughters, Alexandra and Kimberly; siblings, Camille and Chris App, Francine and Richard Marino, Maryann Gennaro and Frank Gennaro; mother-in-law, Rose; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Denise Arena and Gerard and Jennifer Arena; many nieces and nephews, Christopher and Christina, Janine and Jonathan, Samantha and Steven, Deanna and Ryan, Charles and Gina, Danielle and Andy, Robbie and Brooke; and his ten great nephews; along with numerous other family and dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan.  Interment will be private.  For those who desire memorial contributions may be made in honor of Anthony Gennaro to The Gianna Effect Foundation, Attn: Melodie, PO Box 88, Albertson, NY 11507 or HERE.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
