Obituary of George T. Eckelson

George T. Eckelson, 92, of Freehold passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Applewood Assisted Living, Freehold. He was born in Weehawken, raised in Laurence Harbor and had lived in South Amboy, Jackson, and Howell before moving to Monmouth Crossing in Freehold. A man of faith, and a devout Catholic, George was a long-time member of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine.  He was a driver for Sunoco for 33 years. George had a lifelong love of sports – particularly baseball and football. He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Eckelson; parents, John and Mae Eckelson and son Richard Eckelson. George is survived by his son, John Eckelson and his wife, Linda of Palm Beach, Florida, daughter-in-law, Karen Eckelson of Toms River; three grandchildren, Richard Eckelson, Caitlin Selden and her husband, David, and Christopher Eckelson; and two great grandchildren, Lucas Selden and Nathan Selden.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 9:00 to 12:30 PM with his Funeral Service to follow. Interment will take place at Old Tennent Cemetery, 454 Tennent Road, Manalapan.
