Obituary of Jane A. Carris

Jane A. Carris, 73, of Howell passed away at home on Thursday, August 17, 2023.  She was born and raised in Elkhart, IN, and lived in Texas and Colorado before settling in New Jersey in 2012.  Jane graduated from Elkhart High School and went on to study literature at Olivet Nazarene College. She worked in sales for the Yellow Pages and volunteered with the Salvation Army, the Boys & Girls Club, and other civic organizations.  In her spare time, Jane enjoyed traveling the world; her most memorable trips included visits to Europe and the Far East.  Jane was an avid reader and a frequent patron of the public library; when she passed, she was holding a book in her hands.  She was polished and poised; all who knew Jane will recall that she had her hair and nails done for every occasion.  She took great delight in shopping and loved finding a great deal at Kohl’s.  Since settling in Freehold, Jane was an active participant in social activities at Surrey Downs. Most notably, she served as the President of the Women’s Club. 

She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Hazzard and Joan Gorman; and her mother, Dorothy Hamlin.  Jane is survived by her children, Jason Carris and his wife, Renee of Manalapan, Ryan Carris and his wife, Kari of Naperville, IL, Aaron Carris and his wife, Elizabeth of Elkhart, IN, and Nate Carris and his wife, Ali of Forrest Park, IL; grandchildren, Justin, Haden, Isabelle, Eli, Adler, Olivia and Fiona; nieces, Ann Mary Quarandillo and Emily Williams; and nephew, E. Hoover Gorman.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.  Interment will be private.  Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army USA or Samaritan’s Purse, P.O.
